The Space Between Seasons
Hello Friends,
There has always been something about September that feels different to me.
Part of that is personal. It's my birthday month, which has always felt like a marker to me - a time to go inward and reflect on where I was when the year began and where I am now. But even beyond my birthday, September has always felt different to me.
It's still summer, but it doesn't feel like summer anymore. The long, carefree days give way to calendars, routines, and familiar responsibilities. The air hasn't fully changed, but somehow we know the season is beginning to shift. We find ourselves standing in that quiet space between what has been and what is about to be.
I think our lives often move through seasons like that too.
There are times when we've outgrown an old way of being, but haven't quite grown into the new. We know we can't go back, yet we can't fully see what's ahead. It can feel uncomfortable - even unsettling - because our minds naturally want certainty. We want to know what's next.
But perhaps not knowing is part of the journey.
The in-between isn't empty space. It's where we grow, gather wisdom from the experiences we've lived, discover strengths we didn't know we had, and begin to see ourselves - and our lives - a little differently.
Looking back over this past year, I can honestly say life hasn't unfolded the way I thought it would. There have been unexpected turns, lessons I didn't anticipate, and moments that stretched me in ways that I never would have chosen.
And yet, even though life didn't necessarily go as planned, I can now see that it was unfolding exactly as it needed to. Not in the way I wanted, but in the way I needed.
When I compare where I was then to where I am today, I can see the growth that's taken place. I'm different. Stronger. More resilient. More self-aware. I have a deeper trust in myself and in life's unfolding than I did a year ago.
It's a beautiful thing to realize that every time we let go of an old version of ourselves, we create space for something new to emerge.
As the pace of life naturally begins to pick up again this month, I hope you'll give yourself permission to pause and reflect on how far you've come. Honor the lessons you've learned. Acknowledge the strength you've gained.
And if you find yourself in one of life's in-between seasons, remember that you don't have to have everything figured out. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply stay present, remain curious, and trust that not every answer needs to arrive before the next step becomes clear.
The in-between is only temporary. The seasons will continue to change, just as they always do.
For now, perhaps this is simply your invitation to appreciate this moment exactly as it is, while quietly making space for all that is still unfolding.
With warmth and gratitude,
Rebecca
